When I lived in New York, my friend Red and I noticed that at many of the body-celebrating public parades like the Halloween or Mermaid Day Parade, there were a ton of really aggressive photographers who would take pictures of us and others without our consent, making us feel awkward and therefore less body-celebratory. The Male Gaze Photographers were our response to this invasive dynamic. We would attend parades as Male Gaze Photographers and take pictures of other aggressive photographers. These little interactions spurred animated conversations with photographers about consent, representation, and sovereignty over one’s personal image in public spaces. 

Cuando vivía en Nueva York, mi amiga Red y yo nos dimos cuenta de que en muchos de los desfiles públicos que celebran el cuerpo como el de Halloween o el Desfile del Día de la Sirena, había un montón de fotógrafos realmente agresivos que nos tomaban fotos a nosotras y a otras personas sin nuestro consentimiento, haciéndonos sentir incómodas y por lo tanto menos celebradoras del cuerpo. Decidimos asistir a desfiles como "Fotógrafos de Mirada Masculina" y tomar fotografías de otros fotógrafos agresivos. Estas pequeñas interacciones provocaban conversaciones con los fotógrafos sobre el consentimiento, la representación y la soberanía sobre nuestra imagen personal en espacios públicos.
